Just look at that cover….just let it sink in for a moment. This was during the time the rather lackluster Dredd vs. death was coming out and just like many tie ins its rather awful…to show you the full awfulness (and to pad out a short entry heres some other awful tie ins from 2000ads marketing department.

 (In case you thought even the mighty bolland cannot fail heres proof where you are so wrong!)

Well enough of that nonsense...Anyway lets ignore those covers now and actively despise tharg for such shameless promotion and look at the judge Dredd episode this prog and just marvel at the insanity within and how ironic it is that I cover it...

This…is a Judge Dredd/Nikolai Dante crossover with a heavy referencing to the apocalypse war and the former Sov bloc as a whole. Drawn by Simon Fraser…

I am not even kidding about that…

1328: One Mean Mother

Arr me mateys

Hoist up the flag and set sail as the current seafaring saga in the ongoing Nikolai Dante narrative ends. Captured by Sagawa and her black dragons, Dante is forced to join his pirate mother’s crew or the two children he saved from the batshit insane Kraken will be killed!

I have to admit as much as I love Nikolai Dante reading this storyline back when it first came out was an utter drag. It was a pain watching Dante deal with an almost new cast after dealing so long with the prick Vladimir and Jena for so long. Luckily that changed slightly next time the series returned…

It is ironic looking back on this series even as it nears its bloody end in the current time of me typing this. In particular the fates of most of this cast in this story…

Bec and Kawl also return in this issue but…we’ll deal with that mess next time around.

1322: The enemy within

It’s the most pointless crossover ever and that’s saying something! Yes its judge dredd vs. those acid blooded bastards from those films that people other than me seem to like. Yep its judge dredd vs. aliens. Yep Dredd had already faced those dredd (heh) locked bastard in Dredd vs. predator…it was inevitable that shit like this would happen.

Jointly written by John Wagner and Andy diggle and drawn by the wonderful Henry flint. It has Dredd, new judge Sanchez and a whole gaggle of cannon fod…pest control operatives as they face off against a swarm of aliens.

The next phase of Dantes saga begins proper after the prologue set in the past last prog. After his betrayal by his ongoing rival the countess he is adrift at sea. He comes across a ship under attack by the feared pirate the kraken and pretty much does what he does best.

I love Nikolai Dante but even I felt this saga…dragged a bit during its original publication but it works in trades…it really does.

Next time pat mills unleashes the black siddah on us all!

An ominous portent

1220 Rocket Dan! 22/11/00

Book 2 of the tsar wars strand of Nikolai dante concludes with a rather astonishing turn of events which shatter the Family Romanov forever. Nikolai in a shocking moment of ruthlessness stabs his brother Konstantine in the stomach.



Hmm don't really need to say more than that do I other than Nikolai Dante is awesome read the trades....do it....do it now!!!

1215: blood brothers 18/10/00

This Issues Dredd begins an eight part story called Sector house which features the first full length appearance of an character who still appears in the Dredd strip today. That character is Judge rico a younger clone of Dredd himself. Similar in tone to classics like the pit and its sequel beyond the call of duty, Sector house follows the drama of a small group of judges who are not exactly pleased when Dredd the younger joins them....

Elsewhere Family troubles brew in Nikolai Dante when tensions between Dante and his Brother Konstantine finally explode!.

I know I seem to be mentioning Dante nearly every entry at the mo but its been that good!
