1250: FEATURING JUDGE DREDD (yeah no tag line)

There’s nothing like a relaunch prog and this is a particularly strong one this time!

Four new stories begin with a fifth next prog. But today we shall focus on just one of them. Helter Skelter Garth Ennis first 2000ad story in god knows how long. See our man Garth who nowadays writes very grotty superhero parodies and has in the past wrote about a preacher who cusses and shags a lot and has a best pal vampire has returned to the place where he began.
Well okay he was bribed to return. See the rights to some of his early crisis stuff were available and the boys at rebellion decided to hand them over to him for at least two stories from him. One is Monkey on my back and is covered in a later slog entry and the other is this…mess.

Darien Kenzie is on the run after a experiment in dimensional travel has gone horrifically wrong. She is attacked by both Geeks from old 2000ad strip the V.Cs and then by Judges who have no qualms about killing innocents and have targeted her and only Judge dredd can help her by blowing the judges away and quoting the terminator.

1249: Hells teeth

It’s the big cleanup prog in order for 1250 to unleash its thrill powered contents to the world. A short two part dredd story in which a group of mutants rampage against a group of mega city lawyers (could dredd tell the difference) ends. A short future shock appears and Carver Hale ends never to return aside from a cameo in the birthday prog a few months down the line. A love like blood ends with a cataclysmic battle as imprinted onto the cover.

I am going to talk about tales of telguuth but rather than write about it. You need to hear about it. Its for that reason unlike my other reedits I have kept the video of this one. You need to hear how awful and boring an episode of this series can be.

1247 Flamin' Hell

After a six week break (likely due to the artist being slow) Carver Hale returns to end his one and only tale. I refer you back to the entry for 1236 for the exact story of this thrill.

Also concluding this issue is the controversial return to mars storyline for the Abc warriors. Thrill power overload tells the story much better but even back then I could tell there was some serious meddling in this story. One minute Mek quake is dying of a computer virus and crashing a ship. Next minute he is hale and healthy with the rest of the warriors…

The story as a whole is a complete and utter car crash and almost killed the warriors as a strip. Luckily they came back stronger than ever…but that’s a tale for another time.

1246: Zero Tolerence

John Wagner begins to play a long game on Dredd this issue as we are in part three of the chief judge’s man. The story goes that there appears to be a clandestine assassin who is used by the chief judge to wipe out some targets that need to be kept shut.

Dredd gets involved in the case and attempts to track down this mysterious killer unaware of his ties to the justice department. A tense story, which really makes you think Hershey, could really be behind all this until the very end…

Next slog

Carver Hale concludes…
